The unidentifiable beauty of respect

My head is working overtime, my body can’t keep up. That working-class family education will be the reason for my self-respect to be mirrored on physical performance. ‘Respect must be earned’, a common expression that is often linked to behaviour and the impressions you leave with the people you meet. Our so-called ‘Liberal’ society of today, blended the norm to being merged into the meaningless mass. A little philosophical minded man is easily an outsider, artists are more often disrespectfully named subsidy-hungry ‘leftist’ outcasts. “Working for your bread” implements that enough ‘bread’ eliminates the need to work and real life can be lived. In today’s world, it’s not the effort that earns respect but the result of that, measured by performances and goals achieved.
.
There’s that little voice inside us that’s making us believe we can do it all ourselves. All biological and mathematical laws say we can’t. We, humans, are a species that forgot how to survive a rural world, not being able to distinguish the poisonous from the healthy possibilities around us. After centuries of travelling clueless around the planet, hunting down anything eatable, we learned how to plant and harvest, found the healing ingredients in nature, invented politics and leadership, got lazy and forgot all we’ve learned. Naively trusting in the ones given the mandate to speak and act on our behalf. “They” will solve problems, they will find a cure, they will punish the bad, they will reward the good, they will fight for our freedom, they will keep us safe. But guess what, “they” don’t.
.
It’s such an easy phrase; “With consideration and respect for all”, but the rich get richer, the poor get lost in life, less educated and less healthy as a result of decades of respect-less leadership in western society. It seems a revival of the golden century where prosperity for the elite was gained with high taxes for the poor, slaves for doing the hard and dirty work, positions given by birth and wealth protected by thick walls. Narcissistic politicians, backed-up by fabricated fake democracy systems and capitalist rules are gaining power. Time is on the edge of returning to the day’s of Nero, Hitler, Stalin and Idi Amin, respect isn’t something that’s earned anymore but brutally forced upon the mass by bought media, declining health service, convincing the fast-growing population of under-educated and brainwashed citizens to vote for the devil. Respect for the human race is lost in the crusade for more power and god-like positions by the financial elite. Thatcher, Bush senior, Berlusconi, and Bush junior were just advanced troubadours singing the songs of dark days to come. A new generation of God-syndrome infected wannabe dictators is knocking on heaven’s door, not to get in but to destroy it. Without any respect for the lives of others Johnson, Wilders, Le Penn, Cameron, Rutte, Putin, and Trump, to name a few, are leading the citizens into an ancient feudal system of masters and slaves without any respect for privacy, human rights or life itself.
.
Without a glance of self-respect we’re lost and until that great flock of human sheep is gaining their senses, and will to defend their freedom, back there won't be any respect from the ones dealing the cards. It took the French a lot of time to gain that self-respect and start a revolution, putting the aristocrats under the guillotine. It will take a lot of grieve, hunger, pain and humiliation before one of the next generations will come to the point of no return. The only thing we can do is teach our children some self-respect and educate them as good as possible because generally, worn respect is a Utopian fantasy.

An onset writer with a good selling novel, reaching the top ten of most sold books, doesn’t automatically get the respect of the literary elite, on the contrary. A nurse in a nursing home may carry out her work with passion against a disrespectful monthly fee, as in various sectors like horticulture, call-centres and on manufacturing-lines, a modern form of slavery is introduced that, when it comes to self-reliance and self-respect, crushed any straw of hope. Self-esteem is linked, according to my experience, with pride, freedom and realizing your right to be, supported by receiving compliments and love of others. Small uplifting words as; ‘You’ve done well,’ when your unemployed neighbour tries to strip the weeds out of your driveway, or; ‘What a beautiful drawing,’ while some children made a mess on the sidewalk, expressing their creativity, are the seeds needed to grow self-esteem. Self-respect is growing by every appreciation for making the effort, not by rewarding only results.
